The M1 Abrams tank was put into army service, replacing the previously used M60 Patton tank. However, it is planned to remain in service with the US military until 2050. It is a tank developed for the modern armored warfare program of the USA, equipped with a 1500 hp Gas Turbine engine, sophisticated composite armor, and an isolated ammunition storage cabin in a separate explosion cell for personnel safety. With a weight of 61.7 tons, it is one of the heaviest battle tanks. It also has a significant advantage on the battlefield with its 120 mm tank gun. The first M1 model was followed by the M1A1 and M1A2 models, with improvements made in electronic and armor systems.
